Fuel & Energy Surcharge
How our fuel and energy surcharge is set, what it applies to, and the rates in force today.
Version 2026-11.1 · Reviewed 3 November 2026 · In force from 3 November 2026
Our engineer travel surcharge is 12.5%, in force from 3 November 2026. The carrier surcharge on posted parts is 18.7%, DPD’s published rate, in force from 16 March 2026.

1. Why we have a surcharge
Prism Integrated Security Solutions Ltd (“Prism”, “we”, “us”) sends an engineer in a van to every visit, and sends parts you buy from us by carrier. The cost of both moves with the price of fuel and energy, which we do not control and which can change faster than our tariffs. Rather than build a margin for that into every price, we keep our tariffs steady and show the fuel and energy element separately, as a surcharge that rises and falls with the market and can reach nothing at all.
2. What it applies to
- Engineer travel. The travel-bearing lines of a chargeable visit under our call-out and repair terms: the attendance charge, which covers travel and the included time on site, and any mileage beyond the included miles. The same lines of a survey, an installation visit or a maintenance visit, where those are charged.
- Posted parts. The delivery charge on parts we send you by carrier under our supply of goods terms (tariff 2026-10.2). The surcharge is on the delivery charge alone, and where delivery is free there is nothing for it to apply to.
3. What it never applies to
- equipment and parts, whether fitted by us or posted to you
- labour on site, including the time included in the attendance charge
- service plan payments, monitoring and any other recurring charge
- a quotation's price for an installation, which is fixed for its validity period
- a free survey, or any visit we attend under a service plan or a warranty at no charge
4. How the engineer travel rate is set
The engineer travel rate follows the United Kingdom’s published pump price for diesel: the Weekly road fuel prices published by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. On the first working day of each month our Directors take the average of the weekly readings published in the previous month and set the rate from the band it falls in. The bands are fixed and published here, so the rate is never a judgement: the index decides it.
| Average diesel price | Engineer travel surcharge |
|---|---|
| below 149.9p a litre | 0% |
| 149.9p to 159.8p a litre | 2.5% |
| 159.9p to 169.8p a litre | 5% |
| 169.9p to 179.8p a litre | 7.5% |
| 179.9p to 189.8p a litre | 10% |
| 189.9p to 199.8p a litrecurrent | 12.5% |
| 199.9p to 209.8p a litre | 15% |
| 209.9p to 219.8p a litre | 17.5% |
| 219.9p a litre and above | 20% |
The rate in force, 12.5%, was set at the review of 3 November 2026 from an average of 198.5p a litre. A change takes effect from the date published here and applies to visits booked from that date; a visit already booked keeps the rate it was booked under, which your confirmation names.
5. How the posted parts rate is set
Parts we post go by DPD, whose own fuel and energy surcharge is a cost on every parcel we send. We pass that surcharge through at the rate DPD publishes — 18.7% from 16 March 2026 — and we do not add to it. It applies to our delivery charge only, never to the parts, and when DPD changes its rate ours follows from the same date, published here. A parcel already paid for is sent at the rate shown on its invoice.
6. How it shows on your quotation and invoice
Where a surcharge applies it is shown as its own line, named as such, with the rate and the charge it is applied to, so it is never hidden in a price. It takes the same VAT treatment as the charge it is applied to. A quotation that includes a visit charge names the rate in force when it was issued and holds it for the quotation’s validity period; a visit booked under our call-out terms names it in the booking confirmation; an invoice for posted parts shows it beside the delivery charge.
7. Service plans and existing agreements
Service plan payments do not carry a surcharge, and the visits a plan includes are attended at no travel charge, so there is nothing for a surcharge to apply to. An installation quoted and accepted at a fixed price is not re-priced. Where an agreement sets out its own charges for travel, those charges govern and this page does not add to them.
8. When fuel prices fall
The surcharge is a passing-through of a cost, not a price rise. When the index falls into a lower band the engineer travel rate falls with it at the next monthly review, and when DPD lowers its surcharge ours follows. Either can reach 0%, and the page will say so.
