Your Network is Your Foundation

A Network That Doesn’t Let You Down

Every camera, access control reader, till point, phone and laptop on your site depends on the network underneath it. A poorly designed network causes dropped calls, slow transfers and downtime that costs real money. Prism designs and installs structured cabling and network infrastructure engineered for reliability first.

All new installations use Category 6A (Cat6a) cabling, the current UK standard for business networks, tested and certified to BS EN 50173 with TIA-606-C compliant labelling — so your network is fully documented, not just a bundle of wires in a cabinet.

Core Services

What We Install & Support

🔌

Structured Cabling

Cat6a and fibre cabling design and installation to BS EN 50173, first-fix through to final testing and certification.

🛡️

Network Security & VLANs

Firewall configuration, VLAN segmentation and secure network design aligned to Cyber Essentials’ five technical controls.

Power over Ethernet (PoE)

PoE/PoE+/PoE++ switch design for cameras, access points and IP phones — one cable for data and power.

🌐

LAN / WAN Design

Site-wide network architecture and multi-site WAN links, designed to scale from a single office to a national estate.

💡

Fibre Backbone Links

Fibre-optic runs between buildings, floors and comms cabinets for high-bandwidth, interference-free inter-site links.

🗄️

Rack & Cabinet Builds

Comms room and server rack installation with proper cable management, patch panel labelling and airflow planning.

Built to a Standard, Not a Guess

Every Cable Tested. Every Run Documented.

Cabling that “just works” on day one but can’t be traced or diagnosed six months later isn’t a real network — it’s a liability. Every Prism installation is certified with a full test report per cable run, and labelled to TIA-606-C so any engineer, ours or yours, can identify and trace a connection in seconds.

  • Certified test results for every cable run (Fluke or equivalent)
  • TIA-606-C compliant labelling at both ends
  • As-built network diagrams and IP schedules handed over
  • Headroom designed in for future PoE and bandwidth demand

Who We Work With

Networking for Every Kind of UK Site

Domestic

Home networking, whole-house cabling and network cabinets that keep pace with smart security, media and home-working demands.

Business & SME

Office and retail cabling, comms room tidy-ups and PoE upgrades that support CCTV, access control and till systems on one network.

Corporate

Multi-floor and multi-site structured cabling programmes with consistent standards, documentation and rollout across a UK estate.

Industrial

Ruggedised cabling and fibre for warehouses, plant rooms and logistics sites — engineered for PoE load, distance and harsh environments.

Government & Public Sector

Documented, auditable network installations that support Cyber Essentials Plus certification and public sector procurement requirements.

Networking & Cyber Essentials

Secure network configuration is one of the five technical controls assessed under the NCSC’s Cyber Essentials scheme, and a requirement for many UK government and supply-chain contracts under Procurement Policy Note PPN 014. We design firewall rules, VLAN segmentation and access control into every network build, so your infrastructure supports certification rather than blocking it.

Common Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does Cat6a matter over Cat6 or Cat5e?

Cat6a supports 10 Gbps over the full 100-metre run and handles the heat generated by Power over Ethernet far better than Cat5e or Cat6, thanks to its larger conductor gauge and improved shielding. It’s the standard we specify for new UK business installations because it gives you headroom for at least a decade without a re-cable.

Can you support cameras, access control and IT on one network?

Yes — this is one of Prism’s core strengths as both a security and networking specialist. We design converged networks with VLAN segmentation so CCTV, access control, alarms and general IT traffic all run safely on shared infrastructure without compromising security or performance.

Do you provide network documentation after installation?

Every installation is handed over with certified test results per cable run, TIA-606-C labelling, an as-built diagram and an IP address schedule. This means any engineer can pick up and maintain the network in future, not just the person who installed it.

What is PoE and do I need it?

Power over Ethernet delivers electrical power and data down the same cable, removing the need for separate power sockets at cameras, access points and IP phones. Standards range from 802.3af (15.4W) up to 802.3bt PoE++ (60-90W) for high-power devices like digital signage and multi-radio Wi-Fi 6E access points. We size your switching and cabling to match your device load.

Can you work across multiple sites for a corporate client?

Yes. We run multi-site cabling and network rollouts to a consistent specification and documentation standard, with a single point of contact managing scheduling across your estate — useful for retail chains, corporate offices and public sector portfolios alike.
